Promotion for Bollington’s junior footballers
BOLLINGTON United Junior Football Club (BUJFC) U-14s have been crowned champions of the Stockport Metro Junior League, division three.
The team may have lost three of their first four games, but they didn’t lose heart and the season took an upturn with a 5-2 win over Burnage. Gradually the team improved and with each victory grew in confidence and succeeded in winning 13 of their last 14 games. This was enough to secure the league title by two points.
The highlights of the season were a hard fought 2-0 victory away to Richmond Rovers and a nail-biting 2-1 win at Cheadle and Gatley, the eventual runners-up on
There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon modelling, crafts and a Top Gear style leader board challenge.
There will also be free hotdogs and snacks, and entertainment on the big screen.
The event is open to all - you don’t have to have or bring a bike.
It takes place between 11am and 3pm the team’s last game of the season.
Assisted by team top goal scorer, Henry Bridgett, and players’ player of the season Kevin at the Life Church on Hawthorn Road, Bollington. ●● BOLLINGTON will be in bloom next week when the decorations come out for the Well Dressing Festival. Water features across the town will be decorated with flora for the annual event.
They will be on show from Saturday, July 2, until Sunday, July 10, Lopez, Bollington scored the most goals in the league as well as recording the most clean sheets.
Paul Hamer, Bollington United U-14s coach, said: “The club and supporters are so proud of the boys for showing dedication and team spirit throughout the season.
“Considering they started with no home venue and had a rocky start until their triumph over Burnage, the players grew in confidence and really deserved to bring home the title.
“We wish them the best of luck in division two.” with an opening ceremony on at the Greg Fountain, on Flash Lane, at 11.30am on the Saturday. ●● POTT Shrigley’s community cinema Flix in the Stix will show Spectre at its next event. It will run from 7.30pm until 10.30pm at the village hall.
Tickets in advance cost £4 or it is £5 on the door.
