Knudsen in for PB on Etwall course
THE weekend saw some great results for the Wheelers. On Saturday, Ruth Gamwell was the fastest lady in the MDTTA 50 mile time trial on the Twemlow, Chelford, Knutsford course.
Her time of 2.12.00 was over 90 seconds better than the second placed lady.
Also on Saturday, Mike Knudsen recorded his fastest ever time for a 25 mile time trial – and the fastest by a Wheeler this year – on the Etwall course.
He took 30 seconds off his previous best with a time of 53.22.
On Sunday, Chris Quin carried his blistering form into the LVRC National Championships held on a rolling course at Audlem in Cheshire.
Quin was part of a five man break that formed early in the 60 mile race and, having dropped the two weakest members, the three remaining riders built a substantial lead over the main field.
Quin led out the sprint but lost by half a wheel to add a silver medal to the gold he won in the TLI National Criterium Championships a few weeks ago.
David Higham made his return to racing after nine months out with serious injury in the latest round of the LVRC Over 65s National Championship on the same circuit.
Short of race fitness, he initiated an ultimately unsuccessful four man break but lacked the finishing kick to contest the final bunch sprint.
The Club 10 Mile Championship continued on Wednesday evening.
A heavy downpour before the start deterred many potential starters, but those that did ride were blessed with a very fast evening.
Mike Stretch won his second event of the series with a time of 22.27 and there were personal bests for Matt Yardley (who also finished second), James Russell, Paul Dean and Jo Holden (who was also the fastest lady).
Matt Yardley now leads the Handicap Competition with 117 points, ahead of Sian Hughes (114) and Paul Fenton (96).
Matt Burt still leads the Scratch Competition with 115 points from Matt Yardley (109) and Paul Fenton (104).
Daisy Pickles, who won the 10 Mile Championship in 2014, has recently qualified for the World Triathlon Championships, which will be held this year in Mexico.
