We can be champs says Halls
MACCLESFIELD Town defender Andy Halls believes there is no reason why the Silkmen can’t become champions of the National League next season.
Halls recently signed a new deal with the club to keep him at the Moss Rose for another season.
Macc had promotion ambitions during the latest campaign, but a poor run of form at the start of 2016 saw the team drop down the table.
Halls is confident that won’t happen this time, and feels the squad is more than capable of finishing top of the table.
“Promotion is the main target for next season. Either in first or the play-offs, I’m just happy with promotion – that’s got to be the aim,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think that the nucleus of the team is there so there’s no reason why we can’t start the season the way we finished and go on to get promoted.”
Halls has developed a good relationship with manager John Askey during his time at the club, and he felt that played a big part in his decision to stay.
“There was no doubt in my mind, I never wanted to leave. There’s been a few negotiations but it happens every year,” he said.
“I’ve been going back and forth with the manager and I’ve had some good chats with him, and now I’m just looking to play as many games as possible.
“I think I had a good back end of the season so hopefully I start that way, keep it going and be a bit more consistent.
“I want to try and chip in with a few goals as well and do things a bit different and pick up points.”
Halls joined Macclesfield from Stockport County back in 2013 and the 24-year-old made 42 appearances for the club last season.
