School’s net is set for balloon race
PUPILS at Bollington Cross Primary School began a balloon race with a difference on Monday.
Instead of releasing helium balloons into the air, children released virtual versions onto a webpage to travel around a virtual island.
Every hour each balloon travels between 1km and 20km and at the end of the race on Saturday, July 2 at 1pm, the results will be announced at the school’s summer fair.
PTA Treasurer Kelly Harris said: “The pupils were very excited and requested daily leader boards and even a screen in the main hall to monitor the results.
“One pupil told me they thought it was even better than a real race as you could see exactly where everyone was and cheer your balloon on.
“They have given the balloons some great nicknames too – Sunshine, Fairy Fairy, Super Trev and Mini Mess, and have even attached messages to them such as Come on England, For Nana, and Aim High.”
In the run-up to the fair, as well as the balloon race, pupils have taken part in a host of other fun activities including a bear for cake sale where people can exchange a bear for a cake, and a dress down day to collect chocolate for the tombola.
They have also taken part in salt dough sculpture, baking and photography competitions.
