Major road works close route for week

Macclesfield Express - - CHARITY ROUND-UP -

A SEVEN-MILE stretch of the A34 Congleton Road is to be completely shut for seven nights for highways improvements.

Cheshire East Council’s highways team will resurface and replace road markings between 7.30pm and 5am from Monday, September 26, to Wednesday, October 5. The road will be open as usual over the weekend (Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2).

The road will be closed between the A536 Manchester Road at Congleton ambulance station and the A537 Monks Heath crossroads.

The works also include gully cleaning and grass cutting.

A diversion will be in place and will be signposted via the A536 Macclesfield Road, B5088 Oxford Road, A537 Chester Road/Chelford Road and Monks Heath crossroads.

Coun David Brown, cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: “This is clearly one of our key routes, so we were very keen to ensure that we got the best value for taxpayers by coordinating a series of works, while only having the road closed on one occasion.”

Local businesses will remain open as usual.
