Ex-Macc star charged with fraud

FOR­MER Mac­cles­field Town player and as­sis­tant coach Efe Sodje has been charged with fraud after an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into a char­ity.

The 44-year-old is due to ap­pear in court next month with his broth­ers Sam, Stephen and Bright over their in­volve­ment the Sodje Sports Foundation.

They were ar­rested on July 13 and bailed un­til Novem­ber 14 when they will ap­pear at the West­min­ster Mag­is­trates Court.

Sam Sodje, 37, and Stephen Sodje, 42, both of Abbey Wood, south east London, Efe Sodje, of Gat­ley, Cheshire, and Bright Sodje, 50, from Sale, also in Cheshire, have all been charged with fraud­u­lent trad­ing.

The four have been the sub­ject of a three-year in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the Na­tional Crime Agency fol­low­ing al­le­ga­tions of ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties in their char­ity.

An NCA spokesman said: “Four peo­ple have been charged with fraud of­fences after an in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the Na­tional Crime Agency.

“Bright, Efe­to­bore, Samuel and Stephen Sodje were charged with fraud­u­lent trad­ing and bailed un­til Novem­ber 14 when they will ap­pear at West­min­ster Mag­is­trates Court.

“The four were ar­rested on July 13 after a three­year NCA in­ves­ti­ga­tion into al­leged ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties at the Sodje Sports Foundation.”
