Dairy raider is jailed
A PROLIFIC criminal has been jailed for breaking into a dairy.
Brian Anthony Leonard, 39, entered Smith’s Dairies in Macclesfield on September 29 as a trespasser. While inside he stole dairy products worth £161, a court heard.
At Crewe magistrates’ court, Leonard, of Renfrew Close, Macclesfield, admitted burglary.
The offence put him in breach of three separate court orders each concerning supervision requirements about his release from prison. He was jailed for 18 weeks.
Leonard has 66 convictions for 142 offences including ‘many for burglary’, court documents show. Sentencing, the bench of magistrates, chaired by Philip Carr, said only custody was justified or is viable in all the circumstances and they ‘would be remiss in their duty to do anything else’.
Leonard was ordered to pay Smith’s Dairies £100 in compensation. The company was unavailable for comment as the Express went to press.
