Online dismay over report

Macclesfield Express - - HANDS OFF OUR HOSPITAL -

MANY of our readers took to our Facebook page to Express their dismay following the leaked report. Martin Smith: A town of 50,000+ with no A&E department is not an option.

The UK has a GDP of $2.678 trillion, the only reason we would suffer cuts is because the Tories want to destabilise and subsequently privatise the NHS. If we lose our A&E then we must also lose Mr Rutley and demand his resignation. Eden-Rose Hargreaves: We’ve already lost our stroke ward to Stepping Hill, Millbrook is getting closed and now they want to cut the A&E department! There won’t be a hospital in Macc at this rate! Sharon Ewart: This is absolutely ridiculous. After spending most of this week in the department, it’s a very needed service for many in Macclesfield and surrounding areas. There were people being treated in corridors with screens around them, a very very busy place which needs to stay as it is! Pete Watson: Manned by GPs? you can go to the main surgery on Sunderland Street to see one of them! They might as well keep it open 24 hrs and put a minor injury service in there too and leave A&E for serious injuries and illness. Anne De Macedo: This will not come as any surprise to most of my nursing colleagues, it has been discussed many, many times. My feelings are that no amount of campaigning will stop it happening! I hope I’m wrong! Philippa O’Neil: Downgrading, it’s disgusting because any patient that needs an ambulance for a lifesaving reason, ie heart attacks, need to be delivered to hospital very quickly not adding up to one hour plus travel Jonathan R Lea: A town that spends God knows what on new Christmas decs to support a failing retail proposition is simply nuts. To add insult to injury they can’t find funds to keep our A&E open. Totally shocking! Susan O’Donnell French: Macclesfield hospital is the very best and should be upgraded. I had to take my brother in to A&E last week, I couldn’t have asked for anymore from them. I consider myself lucky to have them in our town. Mags Long: Lucky if I could have survived over this past year due to Cardiology problems. I need them so much, likewise lots of others! Thanks to all A&E staff xxx Rebecca Ward: Stepping Hill that already can’t cope with the high volumes of patients let alone getting hundreds more a week! Liz Regan: If there’s been no discussions re A/E how has a report been leaked ? Carrie Brown: I knew it wouldn’t be long before i saw this news, totally stupid and dangerous idea! Margaret Hanson: We cannot stop fighting to keep this wonderful hospital.
