Pete muscles his way into the elite

Macclesfield Express - - WHAT’S ON - STUART GREER

ABODYBUILDER has spoken of his pride after coming fourth in the World Championships.

The podium finish at the IBFA event in Italy last month is the latest stage in a remarkable journey for Pete Jackson.

The 62-year-old from Macclesfield only took up bodybuilding two years ago and is now one of the world’s best in the over60s class.

Pete, who runs ToneZone on Melville Road, said the trip to Rome was a ‘fabulous’ experience.

The dad of one said: “To be competing against some of best in the world - from Italy, Spain, France and Russia - and coming fourth feels fantastic.

“I do think I could have looked a bit better but that’s the trial and error of finding my way in this new sport.

“Regardless it was a fabulous experience and I will be setting my sights on winning first place in next year’s worlds, provided I can qualify again.”

Training for the world championships was no easy feat for Pete, who had to commit to a gruelling regime to get into peak condition involving six meals a day of fish, chicken, broccoli, spinach and lots of protein drinks.

But once the hard work was done, Pete found himself set free in one of the culinary capitals of the world.

He said: “Being in Rome there was plenty of pizza and pasta, not to mention gateau and cheesecake. I basically didn’t stop eating for six days and put on about 16 pounds.”

After a few weeks relaxing and enjoying himself Pete is now back in training mode ahead of Mr Liverpool in May, the first competition he took part in two years ago.

Before taking up bodybuilding Pete was always fit. He grew up on a farm in Flash and for many years he was involved in both the Macclesfield and Bosley tug of war teams.

Pete said: “I am expecting my first grandchild soon and was reminded that ‘fourth in the world’ is a great achievement to tell them about when they are older, but I definitely want to go back and win it.

“I suspect if I do win, I’ll probably then want to go and try and enter other competitions.

“I’m well and hooked.” truly
