Name: B. Phoebe Benta. Name of business: Eureka Events UK Ltd. What do you do?: Eureka Events is a boutique events agency based in Macclesfield. We offer event management services to local businesses, charities and individuals. We want local businesses to make their social funds for staff motivation and retention achieve maximum value in terms of event satisfaction and quality. We organise team building and out of office social events and activities as well as events to celebrate business achievements. We also organise family functions and celebrations. What prompted you to start your own business?: I have worked in both hospitality and corporate events and enjoy managing events. I have always been a big advocate for volunteering at events and supporting local charities and business. With my events background and experiences in working on local events such as the Barnaby Festival, I knew starting my own events agency was the next step in my career. What did you do before this?: I have worked on large events such as the Tour de France Grand Depart and organised gala dinners and social events for university and college faculty, clubs and societies. I then moved into hospitality events and worked at Mottram Hall and hosted at a few local venues. Most recently I worked for a wealth management company organising their calendar of events. What do you think sets your service apart from the rest?: The service we offer. It’s configurable: we offer a range of services so our clients can pick and mix to fit their event needs and budget. We listen to our clients’ objectives and offer a range of possible ideas from which they can decide whether they would like Eureka Events to fully manage or partially co-ordinate the event. What do you enjoy the most about doing this?: The satisfaction from delivering an amazing event! I enjoy being creative, always thinking of different ways of executing events. The best part of my job is at the end of an event both attendees and client have enjoyed and objectives were met. How long have you been in the business?: I have been organising events for more than five years. What’s the best thing about Macclesfield?: The community spirit is great; I have never lived in a place where the community bond is strong and connected like Macclesfield’s. Where is your favourite place in Macclesfield?: I enjoy walking, so Macclesfield Forest is my favourite place. If you could choose anyone, who would be your dream client/ customer and why?: It would have to be someone planning a surprise event for a loved one or close friend. I personally enjoy planning these types of events as I experience the thrill of clients discovering cool things about their friends that they never knew, like their favourite music, games and drinks. What was your first job?: Working in a department store as a bag packer in Antigua when I was 14. What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting out in business?: Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Setting up and running a business takes a lot from you, so make sure you’re doing something that you enjoy!
