Good enough to eat
Protecting brassicas As cauliflowers, cabbages and Brussels sprouts all come to fruition, spend a little time protecting them from frost, pests and diseases to make sure your harvest isn’t damaged.
If you haven’t yet netted the crops, do the job this month.
As the weather gets colder and less food is available, pigeons will be increasingly attracted to your crops and can do a lot of damage.
Secure the netting at ground level so the birds don’t get caught up in it. Protect cauliflower curds from frost by wrapping their leaves over the curds and tying them in place.
And stake tall Brussels sprouts plants which could be in danger of blowing over in high winds.
