MACCLESFIELD played host to Lymm 2s in their return fixture at the weekend.

Having drawn the away game earlier in the season Macc were determined to win all three points, needing these to stay within reaching distance of the teams above.

A great start to the game saw Macclesfield take control, keeping the ball in the attacking half. Two early aerial shots on goal from Claire Barlow and Liv Richardson narrowly missed an early lead.

A goal finally came in the first half with some great team play up the right side of the pitch, the ball was brought up the wing by Laura Collins with a great finish from Liv Richardson from a difficult angle.

The defence were strong throughout the game, with Lymm being kept out of the D and denied shots on goal.

The second half was commanded again by Macclesfield with all round great team play , although we had to wait until the final twenty minutes for the next goal, a slow ball over the line by Emma Houghton. Emma also got Macclesfields third goal from a great assist by Claire Barlow.

A sudden last ditch attack from Lymm saw two goals for them in the final five minutes but they had left the attack too late to catch Macclesfield. The final score, not reflecting the run of play, was 3-2 to Macclesfield.

Man of the match went to Vicky Heylings for some great defensive work and skilful play.

The players player went to Laura Collins for owning the centre of the pitch and setting up some great attacking play.
