League remains top priority for Askey
JOHN Askey insists that the league remains Macclesfield Town’s priority this season despite their FA Cup heroics over the weekend.
The Silkmen are back in National League action on Saturday when they host Forest Green Rovers at the Moss Rose.
Forest Green have been the runaway leaders at the top of the table so far this season, sitting seven points clear after losing just two of their opening 19 matches.
Macc were in poor form throughout October, with Askey’s men failing to win any of their last five league games.
The Macclesfield boss now hopes that his players can build on their cup shock against Walsall by causing another upset and returning to winning ways against league leaders Forest Green.
“The league is the most important thing and we want to be in and around the play-offs,” he said.
“We had a bit of a blip recently but it hasn’t been because we’ve been playing poorly as we’ve been playing well, but we’ve just not had the run of the green.
“Hopefully we can get a result this weekend against then that can help us get back up the table.”
Askey also wants the players who performed at a high level against Walsall last week to replicate that performance again.
“We saw against Walsall that we have one or two players who are more then capable of playing at a higher level,” he said.
“A few of them have already played at that level, but some of the younger players also did well.”
