Oxford far from ideal tie for Ross

Macclesfield Express - - SPORT -

MACCLESFIELD Town goalkeeper Craig Ross admits it isn’t an ideal FA Cup tie for his side after they were drawn at home to League One Oxford United in the second round.

The Silkmen progressed past round one after a 1-0 victory at Walsall on Saturday, and will now attempt to upset the odds once again when they host Oxford at the Moss Rose on the weekend of December 3.

Ross had hoped for an easier match to try and boost his team’s hopes of reaching the third round, but he believes that Macc can still come out on top.

“It’s good to have a home tie but we would have wanted lower league opposition,” he said.

“We’ve got to take the confidence from Saturday where we’ve already beaten a League One team and show what we can do again.

“We know what we can do at home so hopefully we can get through to the third round and get a big money tie as that will help the club.

“The third round is basically the cup final for non-league clubs. Financially it can be huge and it’s also a great chance to test yourself against higher level players.

“The FA Cup is a bonus and a nice distraction but the league is where we want to perform so we can do well this year and get promoted.”
