Guitarist left ‘devastated’ by thieves
AN aspiring musician has been left devastated after the theft of expensive equipment, including a custom built guitar.
Peter Sutton, from Macclesfield, was working with his dad in Halifax before a practice when thieves broke into their work’s van on November 1.
The equipment stolen has been valued at around £3,000 and includes: a custom built Warmoth electric guitar in a Fender gig bag; a Boss BCB60 effects pedal board, wah-wah pedal, two rare Effectrode pedals, a BIMM-branded rucksack; a Dell Latitude E5500 laptop in a black laptop bag; and a passport, which has now been cancelled.
Peter, 20, a former pupil at Macclesfield Academy and Fallibroome Academy, relies on the equipment for his music degree studies at the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music in Manchester.
He is now appealing for a return of the items and for anyone who spots them being sold online to tell police.
Peter said: “I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am appealing for help to get the equipment back.”
Peter started playing guitar at the age of nine after picking up his dad’s acoustic.
A self-taught musician, he started playing the electric guitar and got his first Fender Stratocaster at 15. Since then he has practiced relentlessly.
He is a passionate blues-style guitarist like his heroes Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck, and has been given encouragement from Macclesfield music legend George Borowski.
He said: “I’m now looking to pursue my ambition of playing guitar professionally, doing it properly and not just living the rock star lifestyle.”
Fortunately, Peter’s equipment was insured, something he said is important to all musicians.
He said: “Theft can happen at any time and anywhere. Unfortunately I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Given the amount of time, money and effort that musicians put into acquiring the right gear, protecting said gear is essential to ensure one’s success and peace of mind.”
