Generous shoppers boost charity
SHOPPERS donated more than £1,200 to charity in just two days.
Volunteers from The Christie collected the donations after setting up in the Grosvenor Centre. Ed Kennedy, Grosvenor Centre manager, said: “I’m delighted with how charitable the people of Macclesfield have once again proven to be. The Christie do really crucial work with people that need it the most and I’m extremely pleased that they’ve had a successful two days in the centre. To raise more than £1,200 in that time is quite remarkable.” Vicky Bissett, volunteer fundraiser, said: “We have two very important projects that we’re supporting. The first is a 3T scanner that will help a range of people with cancers of the head, neck, pelvis and prostate. The second is a Proton Beam Therapy Machine that will make treatment planning a more accurate, personalised and efficient process. We need to raise more than £5.5 million to fund the capital cost of building and equipping the dedicated research space with the new proton beam and therapy centre. Every single penny donated by the kind people of Macclesfield will help us reach our target and I’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Ed Kennedy, everyone at the Grosvenor Centre and all of the kind shoppers that helped us raise so much in such a short space of time.”
