Styal to the fore of foot­golf pop­u­lar­ity

FOOT­GOLF is one of the fastest grow­ing sports in the coun­try and Styal Golf Club, with its ex­cel­lent fa­cil­i­ties, has played a key role in this.

Dur­ing the win­ter months Styal will now host the 2016 Win­ter League in as­so­ci­a­tion with Foot­Golf Cheshire and there will be a £500 prize pot and a tro­phy on of­fer for the win­ner and also £250 and a tro­phy for the best new­comer plus many other prizes dur­ing the seven-week pro­gramme.

The league dates are Oct 30, Nov 6, 13 and 27, Dec 4, 11 and 18 with the last date be­ing fi­nals Day and the Hand­i­cap in­vi­ta­tional Cup.

Also on Novem­ber 20 there will be a Ran­dom Dou­bles Day.

Styal’s men played a Par com­pe­ti­tion and in di­vi­sion one Khalil Musa was top of the shop on +2 from Si­mon Ged­dis, Iain Bur­nage and Peter Cord­well, all +1.

In di­vi­sion two Owen Trainor was the only player to reach level par ahead of David Jones and Gavin Jamieson, both -1.

The ‘Open to All’ Sun­day Stable­ford at Styal had Robert Coatham in charge with 39 points ahead of Gary Matthews 38 and John Mol­loy and David Massey, both 37.

Styal Cap­tain Kevin Boc­quet showed his class in the lat­est Se­niors Win­ter League with a good haul of 43 points tak­ing him home from Gor­don Hamil­ton 41 and Harry Reid and David Bate, both 40.

Styal ladies were also in Win­ter League ac­tion with Sue Grange top of the shop with 28 points from Enid Laverty 27 and Joan MacPher­son and Claire Whit­ney, both 26.

Alder­ley Edge ladies en­joyed a ‘Chicken Run’ Stable­ford which was led in by Bar­bara Moss with 33 points from Julie Ricketts and Lisa Burns, both 31 and Celia Ber­ent 30.

Wilm­slow’s men played the first round of their Win­ter League BB Stable­ford and set­ting the early pace were Alan Mar­cus and An­drew Marr with 46 points from Joseph Wee and An­thony O’Rourke 45 and Michael Charl­ton and Jon Bean 44.

The Thurs­day Stable­ford at Shrigley Hall was won by Andy Atkin­son with 38 points from Sally Trus­sell 36 and Ray had­dock, Don Far­quhar­son and Keith Froggatt, all 34.

A Satur­day medal at Shrigley was a close con­test led in by Martin Jack­son with 68, one shot less than Joe Cassidy, Niall Lynch and Mike Pol­litt.

A Win­ter Stable­ford at Mot­tram Hall had Adam Bunt in the pole po­si­tion with 40 points from Gra­ham Moss 38 and Mike Davis, Andy Ham­lett, Dave Smith and Wil­liam Mur­phy, all 37.

Prest­bury’s men showed their adapt­abil­ity in a Five Club Stable­ford and none more than Ian Rennison with a huge haul of 42 points tak­ing him home from Ken­neth Wil­liamson 39 and ian John­son 38.

Prest­bury ladies were alo in a ‘Chicken Run’ and Cheshire star Gill Mel­lor showed her class as she topped di­vi­sion one with 34 points from Lynne Dicken 32 and Linda Buck­ley 31.

In di­vi­sion two Linda Miller was first past the post with 33 points from Gill Usher 33 and Jill Gre­gory, Jenny Purves and Lady Cap­tain Jayne Har­ri­son, all 31.

In the 9-hole Stable­ford Helen Wil­liams was a clear win­ner with 13 points, four more than Jackie Hard­cas­tle
