Close connections for Watson at Oxford
MACCLESFIELD Town assistant manager Steve Watson has revealed next month’s FA Cup showdown with Oxford will be special to him for a number of personal reasons.
Macc progressed to the second round of the FA Cup after their impressive 1-0 win against League One side Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.
The Silkmen will hope to cause another upset by beating higher-division opposition and earning a place in the third round of the competition and a potential lucrative tie against a Premier League side.
Watson has connections with League Two side Oxford through friends and family, and he that is making him excited for the clash.
“I’ve got in-laws down there and I’m very close to their first-team coach and assistant manager, Derek Fazackerley, who was my coach at Newcastle so I like to keep an eye on them,” he told the club’s official website.
“Oxford are a good side and have had a good season last year. They probably haven’t showed the performances they would have wanted to this year but I know a lot about them and it’ll be a tough game.”
The match against Oxford at the Moss Rose will also be shown live on BBC Two, with kick-off scheduled for 7:55pm on Friday 2 December.
Tickets are priced at £16 for adults, £12 for over 65s, £4 for U18/students and £2 for U12 in the seated section of the stadium, while the prices change to £12 for adults and £8 for over 65s in the terrace section.
