Close con­nec­tions for Wat­son at Ox­ford

MAC­CLES­FIELD Town as­sis­tant man­ager Steve Wat­son has re­vealed next month’s FA Cup show­down with Ox­ford will be spe­cial to him for a num­ber of per­sonal rea­sons.

Macc pro­gressed to the se­cond round of the FA Cup af­ter their im­pres­sive 1-0 win against League One side Wal­sall at the Bescot Sta­dium.

The Silk­men will hope to cause an­other up­set by beat­ing higher-di­vi­sion op­po­si­tion and earn­ing a place in the third round of the com­pe­ti­tion and a po­ten­tial lu­cra­tive tie against a Pre­mier League side.

Wat­son has con­nec­tions with League Two side Ox­ford through friends and fam­ily, and he that is mak­ing him ex­cited for the clash.

“I’ve got in-laws down there and I’m very close to their first-team coach and as­sis­tant man­ager, Derek Faza­ck­er­ley, who was my coach at New­cas­tle so I like to keep an eye on them,” he told the club’s of­fi­cial web­site.

“Ox­ford are a good side and have had a good sea­son last year. They prob­a­bly haven’t showed the per­for­mances they would have wanted to this year but I know a lot about them and it’ll be a tough game.”

The match against Ox­ford at the Moss Rose will also be shown live on BBC Two, with kick-off sched­uled for 7:55pm on Fri­day 2 De­cem­ber.

Tickets are priced at £16 for adults, £12 for over 65s, £4 for U18/stu­dents and £2 for U12 in the seated sec­tion of the sta­dium, while the prices change to £12 for adults and £8 for over 65s in the ter­race sec­tion.
