Mayors put heat on cooks in fundraiser
MAYORS from across the borough increased the heat for catering students when they visited en masse to enjoy a dinner at the college’s restaurant.
The students who work in the kitchen at the Silk Room restaurant at Macclesfield College cooked for their special guests on a fundraising night organised by Macclesfield mayor Alift Harewood-Jones.
The restaurant was fully booked with a complement of town mayors including Knutsford mayor Jan Nicholson, Mayor of Cheshire East Olivia Hunter, Poynton mayor Sandra Horsman and Middlewich mayor Pam Farrell, plus organisations and friends.
The young chefs impressed their diners, who raised more than £600 for Just Drop In and Live at Home – charities the Macclesfield mayor is supporting during her year.
The guest speaker was former headteacher Beryl Footman, who had a long career in education in Macclesfield and was the inspiration for the restaurant when she was principal of the college.
Coun Harewood-Jones said: “The evening was the bringing together of the community, education and town council.
“I thank the college catering staff for the excellent meal and all those who attended.”
