Choir mark 60 with gig

A POYN­TON choir is open­ing its an­niver­sary sea­son with two of the UK’s best soloists.

St Ge­orge’s Singers, which is based out of St Ge­orge’s Church, cel­e­brates its 60th year with a con­cert at the Royal North­ern Col­lege of Mu­sic on Satur­day, Novem­ber 26.

There the choir will per­form Brahms’ Ger­man Re­quiem with so­prano El­iz­a­beth Watts and bari­tone Marcus Farnsworth.

In ad­di­tion Marcus, who is the choir’s pres­i­dent, and El­iz­a­beth will be singing a se­lec­tion of songs by Brahms, while Brahms’ Tragic Over­ture will be played by the North­ern Cham­ber Orches­tra.

The con­cert starts at 7.30pm.

St Ge­orge’s Singers was formed in 1956 by the vicar and the choir­mas­ter of St Ge­orge’s.

The choir now has around 100 mem­bers, drawn from Manch­ester, Cheshire, Der­byshire and York­shire.
