Choir mark 60 with gig
A POYNTON choir is opening its anniversary season with two of the UK’s best soloists.
St George’s Singers, which is based out of St George’s Church, celebrates its 60th year with a concert at the Royal Northern College of Music on Saturday, November 26.
There the choir will perform Brahms’ German Requiem with soprano Elizabeth Watts and baritone Marcus Farnsworth.
In addition Marcus, who is the choir’s president, and Elizabeth will be singing a selection of songs by Brahms, while Brahms’ Tragic Overture will be played by the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £18, £16 concessions and £6 for students and children, with group discounts available. Coach transport is available. St George’s Singers was formed in 1956 by the vicar and the choirmaster of St George’s.
The choir now has around 100 members, drawn from Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
