County trophy for Prestbury
DELAMERE Forest Golf Club has hosted the playing of the Cheshire Ladies competition for coveted Doris Chambers Cup since 1933.
Doris was a Cheshire Ladies golfing legend having won the Ladies Open in 1923 and playing for England Ladies from 1906-1925.
The BB Match-play format saw the players knocked out in round one then play a Foursomes Stableford which was won in emphatic style by home pair Sue Claxton and Anne Perry with an impressive 36 points seeing them home by nine points from Rebecca Byle and Hilary Craven (Romiley GC).
In 2015 Wilmslow GC’s Amanda O’Brien and Chrissie Harding-Roberts were beaten in the final and they showed their intent to go one step further as they beat Hilary Craven and Rebecca Byle, 5/4, Moira Forster and Jenny Kehoe (Sale) 4/3, Alison Grant and Lindy Cheetham (Ringway) 2/1 and in the semis Viv Carroll and Kate WardleDavies (Hazel Grove) in a thriller at the 21st to make the final for the second consecutive year.
In the other half of the draw Annette Stroud and Pat Dee (Dunham Forest) had victories over Liz Ruscoe and Chris Carr (Vicars Cross) at the 18th, Wendy Cousins and Jackie Roper (Delamere Forest) 2/1 and Sally Hebden and Denise Booth (Romiley) in the semis by 4/3.
But then the weather intervened causing the final to be postponed for two weeks and the Wilmslow pair were unstoppable as they cruised to a final win by 8/7 to lift the ‘Dotty Potty’.
A Sunday ‘Open to All’ Stableford at Styal was won by John Chorlton with his 39-pointer seeing him well clear of David Campbell and Richard Baldwin, both 36 and Tracey Pogson, Nick Corless, Mike Burchell and Aileen Holohan, all 35.
Shrigley Hall’s men played a BB Stableford and first past the post with 45 points were G Nimmo and E McGeady from Brian Hopkins and Niall Lynch 44, R Haddock and A Barstow42 and J and D Henshaw 41.
A Sunday medal at Mottram Hall was won by Vipan Jain with 69, one less than Manish Gadani.
The Ladies at Prestbury Golf Club have enjoyed a great year which has seen their girls membership increase thanks to the England Golf Initiative of Get Into Golf.
On the course their ladies Plate team enjoyed winning the East Cheshire League finals day at Lymm to see them then go on to represent East Cheshire in the county finals at the wonderful Wallasey Golf Club.
In the final they took on mighty Delamere Forest GC and enjoyed the superb links course with a nerve-jangling 4/3 victory.
The team were able to celebrate their success on their return to their club a few hours after their outstanding success.
