De­lany bows out of ju­nior game in style

PREST­BURY Golf Club re­cently held its an­nual ju­nior pre­sen­ta­tion evening and with his last year as a ju­nior, it was Matthew De­lany who took ma­jor hon­ours.

The sea­son has gone well for this tal­ented young­ster drop­ping his hand­i­cap by 3 shots to fin­ish the sea­son on 2.

He has played con­sis­tently well at his own course through­out the year, and also other clubs in the North West win­ning the Ring­way Ju­nior Open.

Matthew win­ning the Ju­nior Cap­tain’s Prize, Ju­nior Lady’s Cap­tain’s Prize, Course Man­ager’s Tro­phy, PCG Ju­nior Tro­phy.

He was also awarded the Ju­nior Player of the year and as a re­sult of all his wins was pre­sented with the Howard De­lany Salver Or­der of Merit, the tro­phy do­nated to en­cour­age ju­nior to par­tic­i­pa­tion in com­pe­ti­tions, and is awarded to the ju­nior with high­est points amassed over the sea­son and was pre­sented by his Grand­mother Maura De­lany.

Along with all the above suc­cesses he cap­tained Prest­bury Ju­nior Team to win the Cheshire Ju­nior Turn­berry League.

Matthew’s suc­cess was not only lim­ited to the ju­nior’s, he took a num­ber of the men’s ma­jors. These in­cluded The Pier­re­point Memo­rial, Founders Vase, Tay­lor Memo­rial and came run­ner up to James New­ton in the Wor­thing­ton Cup, hav­ing won all these ma­jors he was awarded the the PGC men’s four best net scores for the 2016 sea­son.

Matthew be­gan the sea­son work­ing with his coach Mark Pilling PGA Pro­fes­sional at Prest­bury Golf Club, past Bri­tish Boys Cham­pion, Great Bri­tain & Ire­land Team & win­ner of PGA Trainee Golf Coach 2010,and with his ex­pe­ri­ence, em­pha­sis has been fo­cused on the prin­ci­pals of course man­age­ment in pro­duc­ing con­sis­tent re­sults and re­duc­ing his scores, the ef­fort put in by both has re­sulted in Matthew achiev­ing a suc­cess­ful and amaz­ing sea­son.

Matthew would like to thank the mem­bers of Prest­bury Golf Club for their con­tin­ued sup­port and en­cour­age­ment he has re­ceived over the past year, but also to his coach Mark Pilling who has helped in him achiev­ing his goals and to look for­ward to 2017 sea­son.
