Delany bows out of junior game in style
PRESTBURY Golf Club recently held its annual junior presentation evening and with his last year as a junior, it was Matthew Delany who took major honours.
The season has gone well for this talented youngster dropping his handicap by 3 shots to finish the season on 2.
He has played consistently well at his own course throughout the year, and also other clubs in the North West winning the Ringway Junior Open.
Matthew winning the Junior Captain’s Prize, Junior Lady’s Captain’s Prize, Course Manager’s Trophy, PCG Junior Trophy.
He was also awarded the Junior Player of the year and as a result of all his wins was presented with the Howard Delany Salver Order of Merit, the trophy donated to encourage junior to participation in competitions, and is awarded to the junior with highest points amassed over the season and was presented by his Grandmother Maura Delany.
Along with all the above successes he captained Prestbury Junior Team to win the Cheshire Junior Turnberry League.
Matthew’s success was not only limited to the junior’s, he took a number of the men’s majors. These included The Pierrepoint Memorial, Founders Vase, Taylor Memorial and came runner up to James Newton in the Worthington Cup, having won all these majors he was awarded the the PGC men’s four best net scores for the 2016 season.
Matthew began the season working with his coach Mark Pilling PGA Professional at Prestbury Golf Club, past British Boys Champion, Great Britain & Ireland Team & winner of PGA Trainee Golf Coach 2010,and with his experience, emphasis has been focused on the principals of course management in producing consistent results and reducing his scores, the effort put in by both has resulted in Matthew achieving a successful and amazing season.
Matthew would like to thank the members of Prestbury Golf Club for their continued support and encouragement he has received over the past year, but also to his coach Mark Pilling who has helped in him achieving his goals and to look forward to 2017 season.
