Suspend referee call from Askey
MACCLESFIELD Town manager John Askey has called for referee Anthony Coggins to be suspended after describing his decision to abandon Saturday’s game with Dover as the worst he has ever seen in football.
The Silkmen were leading 1-0 in the second half after Danny Rowe’s goal on the half hour mark when referee Coggins decided to suspend the match just after half-time due to fog.
While the majority of people in attendance felt that the fog was clearing and conditions were fine, the referee disagreed, and decided to call off the fixture.
Askey was furious with the outcome, and was disappointed for the fans that missed out on seeing a full match played.
“It’s probably the worst decision that has ever been made in football and that’s not an overstatement,” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s just a ludicrous decision and I just hope the referee gets reported and gets s0uspended as he shouldn’t be refereeing if he’s making decisions like that.
“Normally you call a game off because you can’t see but the weather improved and it’s probably better then when we started.
“When the referee came over to the touchline he said that he couldn’t see the ball so they’ll come off for 15 minutes and then if it got better we would restart the game.
“It had cleared up so it’s just beggar’s belief that it’s been called off.
“You get frustrated and angry as it costs the club money its costs the fans money.”
