Macclesfield Express - - BY-ELECTION PREVIEW -

THE mayor of Macclesfield was thrilled to be presented with a Valentine’s themed cake for her charity ball.

The 3ft tall fruit cake, baked in the shape of a marble column with Cupid on top, was given to Councillor Alift Harewood-Jones by staff at Oak Furniture, based at Silk Retail Park.

It was commissioned by the store to celebrate a month of successful trading following its refurbishment, and will be raffled off at the Mayor’s Charity Ball at the Town Hall on February 17.

Coun Harewood-Jones said: “I would like to thank Oak Furniture Land for inviting me to officially open their refurbished store. I am delighted to receive the cake donation which we will proudly display as a raffle prize at the charity ball.”

Kevin Leach, store manager, said: “It was a pleasure to present the cake donation to the Mayor of Macclesfield.

“We wanted to show our appreciation to the people of Macclesfield by supporting a local cause in a different way.”

Guests at the ball will enjoy a three-course dinner with music performed by Night Flight.

A raffle and auction will raise money for the Mayor’s charities, Macclesfield Live at Home and Just Drop-In.
