What does it in­volve?: In this beau­ti­ful and thought-pro­vok­ing ex­hi­bi­tion, artist Yvette Hawkins uses silk to draw upon the rich tra­di­tions of her UK and South Korean her­itage. In­habit will in­clude silk sculp­tures wo­ven by Yvette and 10,000 silk worms that she has reared as part of her res­i­dency at The Com­frey Project to cre­ate an im­mer­sive in­stal­la­tion. What does it in­volve?: Have you ever won­dered what it would be like to draw with your sewing ma­chine? If so, then this one-day work­shop will show you how! By mak­ing some sim­ple ad­just­ments to your ma­chine, you can ex­pe­ri­ence the fun of turn­ing your nee­dle and thread into the equiv­a­lent of a pen­cil or pen. Not only will you learn how to draw stitched im­ages, you’ll get the op­por­tu­nity to mix coloured threads and dis­cover dif­fer­ent thread types too. The day will be all about ex­per­i­men­ta­tion, so whether you are a com­plete begin­ner or a more ex­pe­ri­enced stitcher look­ing for ways to ex­tend your skills and knowl­edge, there will be some­thing for ev­ery­one. Ma­te­ri­als can be pur- chased from the tu­tor at min­i­mal cost. All you need to bring along is your sewing ma­chine, a small pair of em­broi­dery scis­sors and lots of imag­i­na­tion.
