Man assaulted ex-wife
A MAN who assaulted his ex-wife said she had told him she was going to sleep with someone else, a court heard.
Martin Leight Christy, 41, reacted when his former partner of 20 years ‘spat in his face’ during a row, the court heard.
He ‘went beyond self defence’ and threatened her with a clothes maiden and his fist, magistrates were told. The incident happened at the couple’s former home in Macclesfield on May 25.
Christy, of Cooper Court, Hazel Grove, admitted assault and will be sentenced on February 22.
Kate Gaskell, prosecuting, said: “During the incident the victim admits spitting in his face but denied pushing him.”
Anthony Derbyshire, defending, said: “It is a 20 year relationship which broke down. His action went beyond self defence, and also followed her comment that she was going to sleep with someone else. But there was no punch thrown. Tensions were high. There was no injury.”
