Man as­saulted ex-wife

A MAN who as­saulted his ex-wife said she had told him she was go­ing to sleep with some­one else, a court heard.

Martin Leight Christy, 41, re­acted when his for­mer part­ner of 20 years ‘spat in his face’ dur­ing a row, the court heard.

He ‘went be­yond self de­fence’ and threat­ened her with a clothes maiden and his fist, mag­is­trates were told. The in­ci­dent hap­pened at the cou­ple’s for­mer home in Mac­cles­field on May 25.

Christy, of Cooper Court, Hazel Grove, ad­mit­ted as­sault and will be sen­tenced on Fe­bru­ary 22.

Kate Gaskell, pros­e­cut­ing, said: “Dur­ing the in­ci­dent the vic­tim ad­mits spit­ting in his face but de­nied push­ing him.”

An­thony Der­byshire, de­fend­ing, said: “It is a 20 year re­la­tion­ship which broke down. His ac­tion went be­yond self de­fence, and also fol­lowed her com­ment that she was go­ing to sleep with some­one else. But there was no punch thrown. Ten­sions were high. There was no in­jury.”
