Dancers need new men to get in step

A LO­CAL Mor­ris Danc­ing troupe is call­ing for new mem­bers.

Adling­ton Mor­ris Men is ask­ing for po­ten­tial re­cruits to come along to try the his­toric tra­di­tion.

The group meets at the 1st Wood­ford scout head­quar­ters, Moor Lane, Wood­ford, ev­ery Tues­day from 8.30pm to 10pm.

They are ac­com­pa­nied by mu­si­cians adept at play­ing melodeon, con­certina and fid­dle.

Af­ter prac­tis­ing in the winter, the group per­form at pub­lic events dur­ing the spring and sum­mer.

Gra­ham Smith from the group said: “Mor­ris Danc­ing is a thriv­ing, liv­ing, out­door mu­si­cal ac­tiv­ity – with an an­cient pedi­gree any­one will find great fun with bells on, guar­an­teed.

“Mor­ris danc­ing is en­er­getic and lots of fun.

“You need to be rea­son­ably fit, have a sense of rhythm, en­joy team work, we’ll teach you the rest.

“It’s as sim­ple as visit­ing any Tues­day evening for your ‘Strictly Mor­ris” taster ses­sion.”

Adling­ton Mor­ris Men come from a wide va­ri­ety of back­grounds, engi­neers to teach­ers, re­tired po­lice­men to nu­clear physi­cists.
