Archaeology project in the spotlight
A HISTORY Live event taking place this evening (Wednesday, March 1) will be all about a fascinating community archaeology project.
The speakers at the event, held at Hollinsclough Chapel Hall, are Elspeth Walker, Margaret Black and Eric Wood from the Tudor Farming Interpretation Group.
They will be talking about the archaeology project at Under Whitle, Sheen, near Longnor, which involves school children, volunteers and community groups working with professionals to discover more about the people who lived in the beautiful Upper Dove Valley around Under Whitle Farm.
Their work revealed two house platforms, probably medieval, and ridge and furrow farming, and Elspeth also discovered a land dispute between the Horobin family going back to 1537 in Tudor times. ‘Peeling Back the layers: A Community Archaeology Project at Under Whitle, Sheen’ will be presented today, (Wednesday, March 1) at 7.30pm. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
