Oriana choir set Methodist church date
THE Macclesfield Oriana Choir is performing at the Methodist church on Saturday, March 18.
Conducted by Keith Yearsley MBE, an appearance by the 85-year-old choir is a popular event on the calendar for Macclesfield music lovers.
The choir will perform Maunder’s Cantata, ‘Olivet to Calvary’ plus four liturgical choruses from Karl Jenkins’ ‘The Armed Man’.
Keith Yearsley said: “Beloved by the Victorians, the ‘Olivet’, and Stainer’s ‘Crucifixion’, were the staple diet of church and chapel choirs during their Lenten observances, sung in alternate years up to the 1950s.”
The guest soloists are tenor Philip Cartwright and baritone Mike Bell, accompanied by organist Andy Donaldson.
The show at the Methodist church begins at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £10 and are available from Cherry Blossom Bakery on Church Street, any member of the Oriana choir or by ringing 01625 424215.
The choir will be repeating their performance at St Mary’s Church in Crewe on Wednesday, March 22, at 7.30pm.
