PHS crowned North West champs
POYNTON High School (PHS) represented Cheshire in the Under 12s 5-a-side football North West Finals, held at Trafford Soccer Dome.
Teams from Lightcliffe Academy (Calderdale), Oulder Hill Community (Rochdale), Clitheroe Royal Grammar (Hyndburn & Ribble Valley), Golburn High School (Wigan) and Parrenthorn High School (Bury) took part in this competition.
The tournament was held as a league basis, with each team playing each other once and the team with the most points being crowned North West Champions
Poynton played Golbourne in their first game and got off to a great start with a convincing win 5-2.
The second game was against Lightcliffe Academy, where PHS followed up with another win, 4-1.
The third game was against Parrenthorn, who had also won both of their first two games.
The game was highly challenging, with PHS coming out on top winning 2-0.
Next, PHS beat Oulder Hill Community School with a straightforward win, meaning a draw or a win would see PHS crowned North West Champions.
Poynton went 2-0 up in their clash against Clitheroe Royal, but the opposition came back to make it 2-2, which led to a nervous final minutes.
Thankfully, PHS held out to finish 2-2, meaning they were champions of the North West.
Poynton High School will now go on to represent the North West in the National Finals this month.
It was a fantastic achievement by all the boys involved.
