Macc hopes

Macclesfield Express - - TRAVEL -

Noble to power home from close range.

Despite the score line, the Silkmen refused to give the game up, as they continued to push for a goal which would bring them back into contention.

Mitch Hancox again found himself on the end of a set piece but his powerful strike at goal was well covered by Rovers’ keeper Sam Russell, who could only parry away the effort.

That marked the last clear cut attempt for the visitors, as Forest Green dominated possession in the final half an hour which saw few chances for either side.

With 20 minutes left to play, Kaiyne Woolery found himself one-onone with Scott Flinders following a lung busting run, but the Maccles- field stopper managed to deny the forward with a smart save with his legs.

However, Flinders could do nothing to deny Mark Ellis heading home from the subsequent corner, to give Forest Green their third, and to make up for his earlier offside effort.

It perhaps could and should have been four in the final ten minutes, goalscorer Doidge nearly grabbing his second of the game, but could only direct his powerful header to crash off the crossbar.
