A THIEF has been jailed after stealing hundreds of pounds of goods from a garden centre.

Wayne Thomas Gardner, 58, from Macclesfield, took tools, a pond filter and pump, and dog beds and mattresses from High Legh Garden Centre, Knutsford.

The value of the goods was £1,598.68. Gardner, of Roe Street, admitted two charges of theft at Stockport magistrates’ court.

According to court documents the first charge relates to a theft from the garden centre on January 22, where a pond filter and pump, a dog bed and mattress worth £474.98 were taken.

The second charge relates to January 23 where he stole garden tools and dog beds worth £1,123.70.

Magistrates sentenced Gardner to 12 weeks in prison. In making their decision, magistrates said that ‘the offence was so serious because the defendant is still in custody and has a long history of offending’.

Gardner was also ordered to pay two lots of compensation for the thefts – £237.49 and £561.85. He must also pay £115 in court charges.
