Huge bike ride sees students raise £12k
GENEROUS pupils from Beech Hall School have raised a whopping £12,000 for a special school in the town.
The money was raised by a team of cyclists from the Tytherington school, who undertook a 230mile bike ride in aid of Park Lane Special School.
Harry Lyons, Louis Brocklehurst, Otis Palmes, Sam Timson, Brad Monroe, Sam Thornton-West and Ewan Jones – who named themselves 90490 in recognition of the school’s 90th birthday – had hoped to raise £5,000, but smashed their target more than twice over.
Park Lane School is a specialist school, in Macclesfield for pupils with communication and interaction needs.
The money raised will go towards the renovation of the school’s hydrotherapy pool, an essential resource for critical physiotherapy as well as facilitating pupils’ independence in the water which may not always be possible on land.
During a special assembly, the Beech Hall team, along with headmaster James Allen, handed the cheque over to the school, and were met with a huge round of applause from pupils and staff.
To commemorate their efforts, a unique mosaic had been crafted by the pupils at Park Lane School.
Every pupil individually contributed to the mural and they incorporated the Beech Hall logo onto a background of the school’s signature colour.
Lorraine Warmer, headteacher at Park Lane School, said: “Beech Hall are very special friends to us and they did something amazing.
“We are very grateful to the Beech Hall team 90490 for their support, generosity and time.
“They had to put so much training in after school so we really appreciate that.
“We wanted to say a special thank you so we created the mosaic piece as it was something eve- ryone in the school, from nursery to sixth form age, could contribute to.”
Mr Allen, head at Beech Hall, said: “Our schools are great friends and we look forward to doing more together in the future.
“I am very proud of the boys in team 90490 for not only completing the incredible cycle but also for fundraising.
“They have made such a difference and thanks to them this wonderful school can rebuild a much-needed facility.”
