Fundraising group is first for region
THE Mayor of Macclesfield has launched the North West’s first fundraising group for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The Macclesfield fundraising branch of the charity was set up by Dorothy Mayers and is the first dedicated Alzheimer’s fundraising group in the region.
The Mayor of Macclesfield, Coun Alift Harewood-Jones, was invited to meet members and learn about the group, which will now work to raise vital funds to help the fight against dementia.
Gillian Edwards, North West Regional fundraising officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We’re so grateful to the group for supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“Dementia affects a huge proportion of the population – one in three people over 65 in the UK will die with some form of the condition. Fantastic fundraising efforts like this will help us to defeat dementia sooner.
“We are extremely grateful to the Mayor for taking time out her busy schedule to formally launch the group and ultimately create awareness of such an important cause.”
The ARUK Macclesfield Fundraising Group is starting its fundraising with a coffee morning and is looking for people who can spare some time to help.
Anyone wishing to get involved should contact Gillian on 07500 222863.
