Special occasion for captain Marlene
ONE of the highlights in the Macclesfield Golf Club ladies year is their Past Lady Captain’s Luncheon.
It was another very enjoyable and sociable occasion with many old friends meeting up and exchanging their fond memories of their beloved club.
It was also a special occasion for lady captain Marlene Connor who was invited by the Past Lady Captains to be their Guest of Honour.
Marlene will be joining the illustrious group when she finishes as Lady Captain at the end of her year in office.
A singles Stableford at Shrigley Hall had division one led in by Richard Burrow with a neat 36 points taking him clear of Charles Green 36, Alex Mansfield 34 and the legendary Brian Hopkins 33.
In division two Mike Burgess was the main man with 34 points from Mike Pollitt 33, Ray Haddock 32 and Martin Jackson 31.
There was some hot scoring at Mottram Hall in a BB Stableford led in by J Hodgson and R Sethi with 48 points.
Two shots off the pace were R Blackwell and a very friendly Ghost and M Firth and A Bethell.
A 9-hole Wednesday Stableford for Styal’s men was won by John McBryer with 19 points from Ivan Bloor 18 and Joe Bradshaw 16.
Hilton Alexander was the main man in Saturday singles Stableford at Styal with a fine haul of 41 points taking him to top spot ahead of Olivier Baker and John Surtees 39 and Dominic Taylor and Matthew Sutcliffe, both 38.
It was a close contest in a BB Stableford at Wilmslow with a cpo on 47 points being won by Gary Brebner and Chris Williams from Rob Ashworth and Peter Skelton and Stuart Taylor and Anthony O’Rourke.
The Cheshire men’s and ladies unions joined forces three years ago to launch the first Mixed Pairs Final for club champions at Vale Royal Abbey GC and it proved to be a great success with entries growing in the second year.
Clubs are invited to send their chosen mixed pairs to participate again in this year’s final which will again be at Vale Royal Abbey on Sunday October 8 and entry details etc have been sent to all member clubs.
