Spe­cial oc­ca­sion for cap­tain Mar­lene

ONE of the high­lights in the Mac­cles­field Golf Club ladies year is their Past Lady Cap­tain’s Lun­cheon.

It was an­other very en­joy­able and so­cia­ble oc­ca­sion with many old friends meet­ing up and ex­chang­ing their fond me­mories of their beloved club.

It was also a spe­cial oc­ca­sion for lady cap­tain Mar­lene Con­nor who was in­vited by the Past Lady Cap­tains to be their Guest of Hon­our.

Mar­lene will be join­ing the il­lus­tri­ous group when she fin­ishes as Lady Cap­tain at the end of her year in of­fice.

A sin­gles Stable­ford at Shrigley Hall had di­vi­sion one led in by Richard Bur­row with a neat 36 points tak­ing him clear of Charles Green 36, Alex Mans­field 34 and the leg­endary Brian Hop­kins 33.

In di­vi­sion two Mike Burgess was the main man with 34 points from Mike Pol­litt 33, Ray Had­dock 32 and Martin Jack­son 31.

There was some hot scor­ing at Mot­tram Hall in a BB Stable­ford led in by J Hodg­son and R Sethi with 48 points.

Two shots off the pace were R Black­well and a very friendly Ghost and M Firth and A Bethell.

A 9-hole Wed­nes­day Stable­ford for Styal’s men was won by John McBryer with 19 points from Ivan Bloor 18 and Joe Brad­shaw 16.

Hil­ton Alexan­der was the main man in Satur­day sin­gles Stable­ford at Styal with a fine haul of 41 points tak­ing him to top spot ahead of Olivier Baker and John Sur­tees 39 and Do­minic Tay­lor and Matthew Sut­cliffe, both 38.

It was a close con­test in a BB Stable­ford at Wilm­slow with a cpo on 47 points be­ing won by Gary Breb­ner and Chris Wil­liams from Rob Ash­worth and Peter Skel­ton and Stu­art Tay­lor and An­thony O’Rourke.

The Cheshire men’s and ladies unions joined forces three years ago to launch the first Mixed Pairs Fi­nal for club cham­pi­ons at Vale Royal Abbey GC and it proved to be a great suc­cess with en­tries grow­ing in the sec­ond year.

Clubs are in­vited to send their cho­sen mixed pairs to par­tic­i­pate again in this year’s fi­nal which will again be at Vale Royal Abbey on Sun­day Oc­to­ber 8 and en­try de­tails etc have been sent to all mem­ber clubs.
