AN amateur dramatics society will bring big hair and event bigger songs to the stage for its production of Hairspray.

The Bollington Light Opera Group will perform the smash-hit musical for at Bollington Civic Hall from Tuesday, May 9, until Saturday, May 13.

Matthew Gratton, who directs the show alongside Diane McIntyre, said the show is already proving to be very popular, with three out of six performances already sold out.

He said: “It has proved to be one of the hottest tickets in town, and three of the six performances are sold out, with only the matinee left with anything like a decent choice of seats.

“We have a large and talented cast who have all worked incredibly hard and now we are raring to get to opening night.”

The show features the adventures of Tracy Turnblad who gets herself onto a local TV dance show in Baltimore, USA in the early 1960s and faces the reality of discrimination in that era. There are five evening performances and a Saturday matinee.

Tickets cost £12 or £10 concessions.
