Donations add up to £1,600 for Scouts
A SCOUT group’s ambition to revamp its headquarters has been given a cash boost.
The 1st Hurdsfield Scout Group has been donated £1,612 from its nearby Co-op branches.
The cash was raised with the firm’s charity fundraising scheme which allows shoppers to donate one per cent of their shopping to a chosen group or charity.
Mark Eden, acting group leader, said: “It’s the easiest way we’ve ever raised money for our scout group and will make a huge difference.
“A small group like ours can find it difficult to raise funds, but with this donation we can press on with improvements to our scout hut; buy materials and equipment for our Beaver, Cub and Scout meetings; and subsidise activities such as trips and camps.
“It has been a real boost to the group, and we’d like to thank the Co-op.”
Greg Carter, chair of the scout group, encouraged other groups and charities to get involved. He said: “Co-op members can nominate a local charity from a shortlist on the Co-op website.
“After six months of being a nominated charity, it’s time for other local charities to have a chance.”
