Col­lege holds open day

MAC­CLES­FIELD Col­lege is hold­ing an open day for its sci­ence, tech­nol­ogy, en­gi­neer­ing and maths (STEM) cour­ses.

School leavers can find out about STEM cour­ses start­ing in Septem­ber, in­clud­ing aero­nau­ti­cal en­gi­neer­ing, con­struc­tion and the built en­vi­ron­ment, elec­tri­cal in­stal­la­tion, IT, me­chan­i­cal and gen­eral en­gi­neer­ing.

At­ten­dees will also be able to tour the cam­pus and ex­plore its en­gi­neer­ing and con­struc­tion fa­cil­i­ties, in­clud­ing its fully func­tional BAE Jet­stream 31 air­craft.

Rachel Kay, chief ex­ec­u­tive and prin­ci­pal, said: “Our aero­space fa­cil­ity is unique in the re­gion and offers stu­dents a plat­form to de­velop spe­cial­ist skills and build an ex­cit­ing ca­reer. There is a wealth of op­por­tu­nity for learn­ers who join our cour­ses.”

The open day is in re­sponse to the UK need­ing an ad­di­tional 1.8m en­gi­neers and tech­ni­cally qual­i­fied peo­ple by 2025.

The event is from 4pm to 6pm on Tues­day, May 23.
