STUDENTS from various Macclesfield schools will give drama performances to bring true stories from the First World War to life.
Cheshire East Reflects is a four-year schools programme of events and activities by Cheshire East Council to commemorate the centenary of the war. As part of this, students will act out emotional true stories from the conflict.
Young people from 10 schools in Macclesfield have been working with the MY Theatre Company under a professional theatre director and are in rehearsals for the two performances.
They will produce re-enactments and interpretations of life on the ‘home front’ and the impact of conflict on family life.
As many as 300 pupils will have the opportunity to take part in workshops, which will examine stories from the home front in the form of letters written by those who experienced it.
Public performances will take place on June 22 and July 6, at All Hallows Catholic College in Macclesfield, and performers will be dressed in costume of the early 1900s and military uniforms.
