In-form Kirton on course for success
THOMAS Kirton, who represents Cheshire County, was one of eight elite young golfers selected to play in the annual Four Counties team event.
Kirton made a huge contribution by winning all of his matches but Lancashire eventually went on to just pip Cheshire 12.5 points to 12. Kirton’s fine form continued as the scratch golfer chalked up more success in the 36-hole Prestbury Club Championship.
The prestigious board competiton prize was won by the teenager who played superb golf throughout.
And he followed this success up by winning the annual Chester Golf Club individual trophy where the challenging course was in pristine condition.
Kirton also reached the final of the Cheshire Matchplay Championship where, in the nail biting semi final, he beat the +4 USA Former County Champion and course record holder Lewis George on the 20th hole with a magnificent birdie.
This set up a great final between the young junior, 17-year-old Kirton, against the +3 handicapper Chris Chilton.
At 23 years old, Chris used his extra experience to take the title with a 2/1 win but Prestbury teenager Kirton had enjoyed a great tournament against some of the best players around.
