Older artists’ work on show
ARTISTS from a group set up by a charity for older people will display their work at an upcoming exhibition.
The members of the Age UK Cheshire East art group come from all walks of life and get together to share their art, learn new skills and make friends.
They meet regularly at the new base for Age UK Cheshire East in Macclesfield.
Now the artists are preparing to share their work with the public at an exhibition at Macclesfield Library. There will be eight artists showing their work, and while there will be no specific theme to the exhibition, the display will attempt to show work done by the group from a few years ago right up to very recent pieces.
Dorothy Lauder, who helps run the group, said: “Self-expression through art is a great way to keep active, make new friends, learn, and share skills.
“The group enjoys the company of like-minded people in a safe and friendly environment.
“Our members range from beginners through to more experienced artists.
“The charity provides a room for the artists, cups of tea and coffee, as well as helping out with art supplies and some of the costs associated with hosting the exhibition.
“But the real effort comes from the artists themselves. Last year the group presented their first art exhibition, which gave us all a great sense of achievement and belonging.”
The exhibition started on Monday and runs until Friday, July 14, and is on the first floor landing area at the library.
This is not the first time that the group has had the chance to show off some of its creations, following a similar event last year.
Dorothy said it is thrilling to have work displayed ‘just like a real artist’.
She said: “It’s sometimes difficult to get across the fact that we are all real artists with our own individual artistic skills, but hopefully those attending the exhibition will get to see a hugely interesting and diverse range of styles which should appeal to a wide audience.”
The group and its sister group the Craft Group are always on the lookout for new members.
The artists meet every Thursday afternoon at Age UK Cheshire East’s offices on Henderson Street, Macclesfield.
