Cheetham se­cures Brock­le­hurst win

THE lat­est ‘ma­jor’ men’s com­pe­ti­tion at Mac­cles­field Golf Club was a medal for the Brock­le­hurst Cup and the proud win­ner was six­hand­i­cap­per Dave Cheetham who posted a nett 68 to win a cpo on the back six from Chris Massey who took the best gross prize with a neat 72 and Ken Brown.

Hot on their heels with 69 were Gareth Robin­son and Greg Brown .

Mac­cles­field’s City Glass Men’s Four­somes team were im­pres­sive in the Manch­ester Al­liance knock out rout­ing Bramhall 6-1.

Mac­cles­field ladies played a sin­gles Sta­ble­ford for the Mary Wil­liams Tro­phy (be­ing played for the first time) and the proud win­ner was Myra Clark with 37 points from Judy Mut­ter 31 and Ge­orgina Whal­ley 30.

Macc ladies were also in medal ac­tion with Mar­lene Con­nor in fine form post­ing 69 to fin­ish four clear of Ju­lia Dunne and Joyce Ri­ley with Wendy Hig­gins hav­ing the low­est gross of 89.

The June medal for Macc’s men was topped by John Sher­wood with an im­pres­sive 63 from Davis Bye 66 and Tim Robin­son and Al­lan Stevens, both70.

The Barn­aby Sta­ble­ford for Macc’s men had Ol­lie Tovee in hot form in divi­sion one with 45 points, five more than Sean Smith and Mark Bri­er­ley.

Divi­sion two was closer with Gra­ham Sum­ner first past the post with 41 points, one more than Ken Rigby and Jonathan Thorp.

Paul Gosling was un­stop­pable at Alder­ley Edge as he posted a huge 45 points in a sin­gles Sta­ble­ford to fin­ish well clear of Nigel How­ells 40 and Steve Cor­field 38.

Edge’s ladies were also in Sta­ble­ford ac­tion with Karen Pen­ning­ton cruis­ing to vic­tory with 39 points from Wendy Rule 36 and Tracy Smith and Jean Walker, both 34.

A Wed­nes­day Sta­ble­ford at Styal was led in by Joshua Towne with 43 points from Ken Hall 39 and James Ben­nett 37.

The sec­ond round of the Styal Ju­nior Sum­mer Stable­fords was won by Ben Richard­son with 23 points, one more than Erin Parker and Finn Man­ning.

At the other end of the age range a Seniors Sta­ble­ford at Styal was won by John Tay­lor with 40 points from Lau­rence Hodge 38 and Howard Dick­son 36.

Styal ladies played a medal for The Shield and Chris­tine George was an im­pres­sive win­ner with 69 from Sue Grange 71, He­len Billington 72 and Diana Hutchin­son and Claire Whit­ney, both 73.

Wilm­slow’s men played over two rounds for the Bod­ding­ton Cup and set­ting the early pace was David Price with 66 from Tom Don­ald 68 and Reg Mad­dock and An­drew Peck, both 69.

Round two hon­ours went to Phil Wicks with 70, one less than Mike Sherry and Sam Proctor.

The fi­nal ag­gre­gate needed a cpo on 140 to give Phil Wicks the tro­phy from David Price with Sam Proctor and An­drew Cor­ner two shots adrift.

Wilm­slow ladies played their June Sta­ble­ford and in divi­sion one Michele Marr was out on her own with 41 points from Mau­reen Ni­chol­son 38 and Philippa Ste­wart 37.

In divi­sion two Hazel Doo­ley led in with 36 points from Char­lotte Hutchins 35 and Fiona Wool­ley and Gil­lian Si­b­ley, both 33.

The lat­est round of the Mot­tram Hall Chal­lenge medal needed a cpo on 72 to see Peter Smith home from Gra­ham Roche and hot on their heels with 73 were Daniel Avery and Joel Hunter.

Cap­tain’s Day at Prest­bury saw the main com­pe­ti­tion won by Si­mon Mont­gomery with 68, two less than Jef­frey Speake, Mike Har­ring­ton, Josh Turnock and Matthew De­lany.

In the sub­sidiary Yel­low Tee Sta­ble­ford com­pe­ti­tion An­thony Bent­ley romped home with 37 points, five more than Michael He­witt.

Prest­bury Lady cap­tain’s Day was won by An­gela Rior­dan af­ter a cpo on 72 with Jane Cam­paigne, three less than Dar­lene Masters, Jean Dun­can and Glenys Smith.
