Cheetham secures Brocklehurst win
THE latest ‘major’ men’s competition at Macclesfield Golf Club was a medal for the Brocklehurst Cup and the proud winner was sixhandicapper Dave Cheetham who posted a nett 68 to win a cpo on the back six from Chris Massey who took the best gross prize with a neat 72 and Ken Brown.
Hot on their heels with 69 were Gareth Robinson and Greg Brown .
Macclesfield’s City Glass Men’s Foursomes team were impressive in the Manchester Alliance knock out routing Bramhall 6-1.
Macclesfield ladies played a singles Stableford for the Mary Williams Trophy (being played for the first time) and the proud winner was Myra Clark with 37 points from Judy Mutter 31 and Georgina Whalley 30.
Macc ladies were also in medal action with Marlene Connor in fine form posting 69 to finish four clear of Julia Dunne and Joyce Riley with Wendy Higgins having the lowest gross of 89.
The June medal for Macc’s men was topped by John Sherwood with an impressive 63 from Davis Bye 66 and Tim Robinson and Allan Stevens, both70.
The Barnaby Stableford for Macc’s men had Ollie Tovee in hot form in division one with 45 points, five more than Sean Smith and Mark Brierley.
Division two was closer with Graham Sumner first past the post with 41 points, one more than Ken Rigby and Jonathan Thorp.
Paul Gosling was unstoppable at Alderley Edge as he posted a huge 45 points in a singles Stableford to finish well clear of Nigel Howells 40 and Steve Corfield 38.
Edge’s ladies were also in Stableford action with Karen Pennington cruising to victory with 39 points from Wendy Rule 36 and Tracy Smith and Jean Walker, both 34.
A Wednesday Stableford at Styal was led in by Joshua Towne with 43 points from Ken Hall 39 and James Bennett 37.
The second round of the Styal Junior Summer Stablefords was won by Ben Richardson with 23 points, one more than Erin Parker and Finn Manning.
At the other end of the age range a Seniors Stableford at Styal was won by John Taylor with 40 points from Laurence Hodge 38 and Howard Dickson 36.
Styal ladies played a medal for The Shield and Christine George was an impressive winner with 69 from Sue Grange 71, Helen Billington 72 and Diana Hutchinson and Claire Whitney, both 73.
Wilmslow’s men played over two rounds for the Boddington Cup and setting the early pace was David Price with 66 from Tom Donald 68 and Reg Maddock and Andrew Peck, both 69.
Round two honours went to Phil Wicks with 70, one less than Mike Sherry and Sam Proctor.
The final aggregate needed a cpo on 140 to give Phil Wicks the trophy from David Price with Sam Proctor and Andrew Corner two shots adrift.
Wilmslow ladies played their June Stableford and in division one Michele Marr was out on her own with 41 points from Maureen Nicholson 38 and Philippa Stewart 37.
In division two Hazel Dooley led in with 36 points from Charlotte Hutchins 35 and Fiona Woolley and Gillian Sibley, both 33.
The latest round of the Mottram Hall Challenge medal needed a cpo on 72 to see Peter Smith home from Graham Roche and hot on their heels with 73 were Daniel Avery and Joel Hunter.
Captain’s Day at Prestbury saw the main competition won by Simon Montgomery with 68, two less than Jeffrey Speake, Mike Harrington, Josh Turnock and Matthew Delany.
In the subsidiary Yellow Tee Stableford competition Anthony Bentley romped home with 37 points, five more than Michael Hewitt.
Prestbury Lady captain’s Day was won by Angela Riordan after a cpo on 72 with Jane Campaigne, three less than Darlene Masters, Jean Duncan and Glenys Smith.
