Cheshire ease past Durham

WILM­SLOW’S green staff worked won­ders to make their course fit for play fol­low­ing tor­ren­tial overnight rain for the key North­ern Coun­ties League match be­tween Cheshire and Durham.

Cheshire got off to a flier in the morn­ing four­somes los­ing just one match to post an im­pres­sive 5-1 lead go­ing into af­ter­noon sin­gles.

Durham gave them­selves hopes of an up­set as they won the first three matches against Tom Dolan, Chris Chilton and Jon Beesley but the tide turned firmly to­wards Cheshire with vic­to­ries from Lewis George, Rhys Nev­inWhar­ton, Sam Turner, Dom Barnes and David Peel.

Chris Har­ri­son and Ja­cob Oak­ley were both beaten on the fi­nal hole but a re­sound­ing Cheshire win by 12-6 was con­firmed with wins from Cameron Massey and Mike Har­ring­ton to keep Cheshire firmly in the hunt for the North­ern Coun­ties League ti­tle with a vi­tal home match against Lan­cashire at Bra­mall Park next month.
