Cheshire ease past Durham
WILMSLOW’S green staff worked wonders to make their course fit for play following torrential overnight rain for the key Northern Counties League match between Cheshire and Durham.
Cheshire got off to a flier in the morning foursomes losing just one match to post an impressive 5-1 lead going into afternoon singles.
Durham gave themselves hopes of an upset as they won the first three matches against Tom Dolan, Chris Chilton and Jon Beesley but the tide turned firmly towards Cheshire with victories from Lewis George, Rhys NevinWharton, Sam Turner, Dom Barnes and David Peel.
Chris Harrison and Jacob Oakley were both beaten on the final hole but a resounding Cheshire win by 12-6 was confirmed with wins from Cameron Massey and Mike Harrington to keep Cheshire firmly in the hunt for the Northern Counties League title with a vital home match against Lancashire at Bramall Park next month.
