Travellers evicted from West Park
A GROUP of travellers have been moved on after setting up camp in West Park.
Police said the group arrived on Tuesday, July 4 and left on Tuesday at around 11.30am after officers issued a ‘notice to leave’.
Four caravans and vehicles were parked near the play area, with another caravan and vehicle near the fence.
Cheshire East council issued a notice ordering the travellers to leave the site by midday on Thursday, July 6.
A police spokesman said that officers attended and liaised with residents and the travellers, as well as providing reassurance to residents.
He said there were ‘a number of reports of anti-social behaviour’.
Some residents took to social media to complain.
One woman, who contacted the Express during their stay and asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s not fair that we can’t use our park. If I was to pull up a caravan there I’m sure the council would be towing me away.”
The group failed to adhere to the council notice, so police issued a ‘notice to leave’ stating they must go by 11am on July 11.
When officers attended around 11.30am to move them on, the travellers were already leaving the site.
