Po­lice dis­cover ‘pro­fes­sional op­er­a­tion’ af­ter raid at flats

THREE men have been con­victed af­ter a huge cannabis farm was found above a for­mer In­dian restau­rant in the town cen­tre.

The ‘pro­fes­sional op­er­a­tion’ – which had a po­ten­tial street value of £280,000 – was dis­cov­ered by a lock­smith who had been sent by the land­lord when the ten­ant stopped pay­ing rent.

Po­lice raided two flats where they un­cov­ered al­most 300 plants with ‘space for up to 100 more’ and ev­i­dence of har­vest and grow­ing equip­ment.

Dean Gareth Pep­pard, 35, Peter Swain, 39, and Gary South­gate, 39, were linked to the crime scene through DNA and fin­ger­prints.

Pep­pard and Swain ad­mit­ted pro­duc­ing cannabis at Ch­ester Crown Court, and Gary South­gate was found guilty of pro­duc­ing cannabis
