Water lily queen to be crowned at village fete
THE new water lily queen of Redesmere will be crowned at the annual village fete on Saturday (July 29).
The fete will be held at Siddington Village Hall with stalls, games, live entertainment, family fun and a dog show.
It will begin with a procession from the hall to the lakeside at 1.30pm, where the new queen Aimee Venables will be crowned by the King of Redesmere, Thomas Crocker.
The ceremony, which includes the new queen being rowed across the lake in a swan boat, dates back to the 1930s.
Both Aimee and Thomas are following family tradition as both have siblings who have carried out the royal roles.
Guests are also encouraged to enter the show’s first miniature garden competition and the popular dog show, which has prizes for a number of fun classes. Anyone can enter on the day.
The fete will also incorporate music by the Macclesfield Youth Brass Band, the AZ Archery Team, the Majestic Owls and entertainer Jack Green.
A fun run and barbecue follow in the evening, with entertainment from magician Nick Barnes.
The event is the major fundraiser for All Saints Church, Siddington.
