Wa­ter lily queen to be crowned at vil­lage fete

THE new wa­ter lily queen of Redesmere will be crowned at the an­nual vil­lage fete on Satur­day (July 29).

The fete will be held at Sid­ding­ton Vil­lage Hall with stalls, games, live en­ter­tain­ment, fam­ily fun and a dog show.

It will be­gin with a pro­ces­sion from the hall to the lake­side at 1.30pm, where the new queen Aimee Ven­ables will be crowned by the King of Redesmere, Thomas Crocker.

The cer­e­mony, which in­cludes the new queen be­ing rowed across the lake in a swan boat, dates back to the 1930s.

Both Aimee and Thomas are fol­low­ing fam­ily tra­di­tion as both have sib­lings who have car­ried out the royal roles.

Guests are also en­cour­aged to en­ter the show’s first minia­ture gar­den com­pe­ti­tion and the pop­u­lar dog show, which has prizes for a num­ber of fun classes. Any­one can en­ter on the day.

The fete will also in­cor­po­rate mu­sic by the Mac­cles­field Youth Brass Band, the AZ Archery Team, the Ma­jes­tic Owls and en­ter­tainer Jack Green.

A fun run and bar­be­cue fol­low in the evening, with en­ter­tain­ment from ma­gi­cian Nick Barnes.

The event is the ma­jor fundraiser for All Saints Church, Sid­ding­ton.
