Cakes and flow­ers greet club mem­bers

MEM­BERS of Prest­bury Flower Club were greeted with cakes when they ar­rived for their lat­est meet­ing, kindly baked by com­mit­tee mem­bers.

Zena Stone, from Bolton, gave a demon­stra­tion ‘Can’t See the Wood for the Trees’, in which she dif­fer­ent types of wood in her dis­plays.

For two of her dis­plays she used large pieces of drift­wood which she had cleaned and pol­ished. One was cov­ered in chicken wire with tubes at­tached con­tain­ing glo­riosa, and the other was a large tree root on which were arums, red and pink gem­ini and pink car­na­tions.

Pam Pig­gott, from the club, said: “Zena pro­duced 10 de­signs which were put into the raf­fle, mean­ing many happy ladies went home from this meet­ing with flow­ers and cakes.”

Af­ter her demon­stra­tion Zena judged the club com­pe­ti­tion for the Jessie Kite Petite Tro­phy en­ti­tled ‘From the Gar­den’, which was won for the sec­ond year run­ning by our sec­re­tary Jackie Burns and pre­sented by our pres­i­dent Lu­ci­enne Ni­coll.

The next meet­ing is on Septem­ber 6 at Prest­bury Vil­lage Hall.

The demon­stra­tion will be given by Mar­garet Ru­mens from Soli­hull and will be called ‘Serendip­ity.’
