New head Lion ap­pointed for group

A NEW pres­i­dent for Mac­cles­field and Dis­trict Lions Club has been ap­pointed.

The char­ity held its han­dover and an­nual din­ner at the Hollin Hall Ho­tel in Ker­ridge, where mem­bers meet twice monthly.

Christo­pher Oat­way handed the pres­i­dent’s chain to Tony Nor­ton from Poyn­ton, whose first of­fi­cial en­gage­ment was the club’s Lions Youth Brass Band con­cert at King’s School.

Mac­cles­field and Dis­trict Lions Club serves the com­mu­nity through or­gan­i­sa­tion and par­tic­i­pa­tion at lo­cal events and do­nates more than £20,000 a year to good causes in Mac­cles­field.

Christo­pher, who is now sec­re­tary, said: “If you’re in­ter­ested in serv­ing your com­mu­nity as a vol­un­teer as well as so­cial­is­ing and or­gan­is­ing events, get in touch.”

Mid­dle­wood Rid­ing for the Dis­abled, East Cheshire Hospice, Bosley Dis­as­ter Appeal, Mary Sun­ley Canal Boat Char­ity, Lions Youth Brass and Girl­guild­ing Bolling­ton were among those to get grants this year.

Up­com­ing events in­clude Bolling­ton Bike­fest on Septem­ber 3 and Lions Swimarathon on Novem­ber 19.
