Buzz as pupils get Tim Peake awards

CHILDREN have been presented with certificates for their work on a space science project.

Bollington St John’s primary school received a special certificate and some individual children received their own certificates which acknowledged their contributions to the Tim Peake Primary Project.

The children took part in activities linked to science, technology, engineering and maths in a special ‘Buzz Week’.

The highlight was a visit from BBC2’s Stargazing Live Professor Tim O’Brien who talked to the children about space and spent an hour answering questions.

He prepared a speech featuring stars, galaxies, telescopes, an antelope, penguins, a baby baboon and an alien.

During the week the children ‘trained like an astronaut’, built electronic arms to do space themed tasks, visited a planetarium in the school hall, cre- ated rockets, explored DNA, wrote space music and explored coding.

Headteacher Melanie Walker said: “We were thrilled Tim could find the time to visit the school and inspire the children.

“This will be something they never forget and has added to their enthusiasm for our Buzz Week.”

Next year’s year sevens were invited to join children from All Hallows Catholic College for a three-day visit to Hope University in Liverpool
