Cake charity calls for more bakers
ACHARITY which ensures every child in the town gets a cake on their birthday is appealing for more bakers.
The Macclesfield branch of ‘Cakes for Kids’ provides Birthday cakes for children across Macclesfield who may not otherwise receive one due to their family circumstances.
Volunteers take turns to bake cakes requested by community groups and agencies that work with needy kids.
But the group of volunteers are now getting requests for more cakes than they can provide, and are appealing more cake bakers.
Emma Spring, from Macclesfield, is the volunteer coordinator for the group, which was set up more than two years ago.
She said: “We are looking for anyone who enjoys baking cakes to join us as a volunteer. for
“You don’t have to be an expert cake baker. The current standard is quite high, but to be honest it doesn’t make much difference how professional it looks to the kids who are getting them.”
She added: “As long as it looks ok and tastes ok we are happy.”
Emma said most volunteers also have jobs and families which means they can’t always meet the demands for cakes as quickly or easily as they would like to.
She said: “We get about two to three requests a month, so we would really like a few more volunteers to help out with the baking. We do ask the volunteers to provide their own ingredients, so if you end up doing it every month then it can add up.
“We just need someone who likes baking to offer to join us and bake a cake when they have the availability.”
Each request for a cake comes from a community groups or agencies that works with needy kids. The request is then shared among the group and whoever has availability will volunteer.
Emma said: “There’s no commitment really, you put in as much time as you want. Sometimes people can bake a cake but don’t have time to drop it off, so we’ll offer to help.”
If you are able to join the team of volunteers go the Facebook group Free Cakes For Kids Macclesfield or email email@example.com.
